The gig at the Continental Club in Houston was intended to be a lightly promoted show that would be a little more organized that the impromptu public rehearsal a few weeks before. But as the date got closer many things were beginning to form into a small but meaningful event. For one www.lossupervatos.com, thanks to Deborah Neuts (her first website attempt), was developing quickly and even though the hits were minimal it put the vibration out to the universe. Our first audience was a turn out of 50 people @$5 a head + a few guests. We made $245 for our first gig on a Wednesday night: $40 a man with a little left over to give our opening act, Los Gallos a little “carinito” for being a part. We were thrilled and surprised. I’m hanging mine on my wall. We humbly and gratefully accepted our kudos at the end of the night. The biggest compliment was when the management, upon handing us the receipts, asked us to play three more future events for them. A couple of other very cool things mentioned to us were when the door man said he was grooving out the whole time which made his job easier. We were also happy to hear one comment that said the music was intelligent as well. Horale!!!
Supportive audience included Mando Lichtenberger, Oscar De La Rosa and Tim Ruiz of La Mafia.
For being the first performance @ one rehearsal a week at best, the Vatos did fairly well and played 19 songs and even an attempt at a new one I sang to only David right before the show. Except for a couple of minor technical difficulties and the fact that I was feeling like I was gonna faint the whole night the stage vibe was hanging in there as well. Hopefully those fainting feelings won't be there anymore after this first gig.
