Wah Wah Wah Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
We were rained out. I was so very sad and long faced. Oh my god, I just went to a friend’s house near by and had to pass out for a couple of minutes and regroup. I was quite upset.
Los Super Vatos arrived on site around 1:30pm that afternoon. All the sound gear was under wraps. We had already been notified that the band before us and the band after us had been cancelled. This gave us a little more chance to potentially play the show. However, I would have still been a bit disappointed because I wanted to merge sets with the Inner City All Stars Brass Band, whom we suggested to the festival to perform after us.
Even though lightening and thunder had passed and there was a glimmer of hope in the sky, there were still storm cells all about. And in spite of LSV setting up gear in position for any ghost of chance, it was not to be.
We really wanted to play. We had even invited my old friend and colleague, Mike Medina to bring some congas out and jam along. But, perhaps there’s a reason for these things not working out. Or at least I/we try to give reason to them. Quien sabe?
I regrouped so that I could go play the polka festival in Ennis with Brave Combo. The other Super Vatos who drove all the way that morning also had to drive all the way back with out the fix of performing our 6th gig. They too had a gig in Houston as well with their alter ego cover bands, Sancho and/or Cosmic Latte, depending if David or Artie is the leader for the night.
We were happy that some friends did show up and brave the weather just in case there would be an opportunity to hear us play. You are true familia.
Also big thanks to Lance Price for the opportunity, maybe next year.
