VZD’s  OKC, OK

VZD’s in OKC, was a complete turn around and a bit of a head spinner at that. We walked in to a room full of people that stayed. Not that they didn’t last time but, it was a lot more inviting. And the oddest thing that in VZD’s on this night was quite a traditional old school Chicano/(Tejano) audience. At one point, I walked in from getting some things from the van and David was already sitting with a couple of girls. A little later we crossed paths and he said, “I think it’s gonna be a good night. I’ve got a couple of fans here.” Well turns out that after talking to an old BC fan and friend Tom Lampy, that he and Lana Henson papered the town and put a quite a few posters up around some Mexican restaurants. Well we guess they saw the David De La Garza of La Mafia part and came out in force. So, this was a new spin on things for us being that our audience has either been mostly non Hispanic up until now. And, the Hispanics mainly in but not exclusive to Houston, know that David and the other Vatos have been doing different side projects. Well, about 25 minutes into our original material some one shouts out …blah blah blah blah La Mafia…..and immediately we thought …oh oh…what are we gonna do with (or for) this guy?David handled it pretty well. He asked for the dudes name and dedicated an old school song, I think it was Le Gusta Bailar Pegado and old Latin Breed cumbia we do. Well, it seemed to calm the savage beast. At least kind of contain him. We also threw in a few more old school tunes that are in our repertoire. I’m sure the staff and regulars at VZs were just as curious at the new clientele for the evening. But, it’s not to say that the room wasn’t also dancing together. I think we pulled it off trying to broaden the horizons of both cultural issues and keep both sides happy and jammin’. Which is exactly what we want to do: to be a band for everyone by playing on both sides or our Mexican-American flavors. Hell we don’t care if your white, brown, black or blue just come on out and leave your prejudices and preconceptions at home, cause we’re gonna have a good time.

Intiendes Mendez?
