The warmest welcoming comment thus far to Los Super Vatos was from Pete Waters of the Zoo Bar in Lincoln Nebraska. His words were, “come on over, we want in on the ground work.” We tried to make a trip in April but to now avail. However it was perfect that the Zoo was having their anniversary celebration and invited LSV to be a featured act. There were five bands on the bill and we were 2nd to last before the venerable Mike Morgan and the Crawl. Dang those guys were awesome. We didn’t want to leave. Mike Morgan was a true professional and seasoned blues guitarist. The bassist was perfect for that style, just exactly the right thing at the right time. And, the drummer had a nice big pocket for the bass and guitar to set in. Well too bad we had to head home but good thing ‘cause with the money we saved on rooms we were able to put towards our travel expenses and pocket a little something but not much. But, it was something. And we are happy to not go in the hole. So we’ll count our blessings.
Oh what about our set? Well it was interesting. I kept wondering if people were liking us but yet no one was leaving and certain songs got bigger reactions than others and it seemed that only a couple of people were dancing in front of us at a time……until, I looked back at one point and there were a bunch of people dancing behind us. And, not only that but two gorgeous girls were dancing not only behind Nathan Smith but practically glued to his backside while he played! Weird, maybe they dancers didn’t want to obstruct the view of the rest of the house. Who knows? But, after we were done playing our set, we knew we had to hurry off the stage for Mike Morgan and The Crawl. After a little lull after our final applause there was a little clap and whistle rhythm going. David and I looked at each other like “….I guess we better hurry up and get off they want the next band. Well…we started to figure out that the carrying on was for us after all. We fell quite surprised and just right before the point of no return tearing down, I asked Bo the wonderful house engineer, if we could play one more and it was cool so we did “So Rich” for our encore. Wow what a gas? Our first encore! (Well I say it was our 2nd but David says it our first “real” one.) Whichever, it felt really great and we felt very warm. We wanna go back, we’re ready.
