Introducing Los Super Vatos
After 20 1/2 years of national and international touring, one appearance on "The Simpsons", and two Grammy awards with the rocking polka band Brave Combo, Bubba Hernandez set out to see what else there is in the world of music performance. In January of 2005, he founded Los Super Vatos, which gained traction rather quickly and is currently performing its Cumbia Rockin' Tex-Mex R & B Grooves at showcase clubs and festivals around Texas and neighboring states. The band's start was based on music from a collection of recordings (currently in post production) Bubba had started in January of 2003. These recordings mixed old school funk and various forms of cumbia. This album tentatively titled Bubba Hernandez, Super Vato: Love and Drama is bilingual Spanish and English and at times in Spanglish. The band that was to become Los Super Vatos, was a great medium to perform this music live.
Bubba Hernandez y Los Super Vatos have created a style that’s performed with a simmering, cooked with grease, Tex-Mex, R & B energy right out of a south Texas Spanglish cookbook and sits perfectly right in between Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys.
Bubba Hernandez y Los Super Vatos have enjoyed playing with a variety of other bands such as folk, blues, rocker, Guy Forsythe, the funk style of The Inner City All Stars Brass Band, Cajun rocker Ponty Bone, as well as latino rockers Del Castillo, Los Skarnales, Flaco Jimenez, and many more.
